Halloween was cancelled in many communities, but instead of feeling blue, we decided to throw the biggest costume party ever!
Latin GRAMMY Winning musician/author, MISTER G and the Global Citizen Ensemble hosted an international celebration that was broadcast live from the historic Academy of Music Theatre. Children and families from around the world joined the Zoom event on-camera to share their costumes and creativity.
During the show, we traveled to Mexico and learned about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), which takes place at the same time as Halloween, but has its own rich cultural history. We visited our friends (Gaby and Katia) in Puebla, Mexico to learn about the creative ways that they are celebrating this year.
We also enjoyed learning about bats from our Bat Week friends - the US Forest Service, Corazon Latino, and Moms Clean Air Force. Did you know the folks at the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington DC have created an incredible Day of the Dead Installation? You can take a tour of their amazing MICTLAN installation and learn their altar in the videos below.
