Darryl Harper began working professionally on clarinet at the age of sixteen in his native Philadelphia. He has performed for over thirty years in venues throughout the world and has led his ensemble The Onus since 1996. Harper’s credits include dates with Freddie Bryant, Orrin Evans, Tim Warfield, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Carla Cook, Roscoe Mitchell, Dave Holland, and Uri Caine. He toured for two years with violinist and MacArthur Fellow Regina Carter. He currently holds the clarinet chair in Jason Moran’s The Harlem Hellfighters: James Reese Europe and the Absence of Ruin, Moran’s tribute project to WWI veteran James Reese Europe. Harper holds music degrees from Amherst College, Rutgers University, and New England Conservatory, and is currently an Associate Professor of Music at Amherst College.
